A Brief Head Spin is the second studio album (first as a solo artist) from musician and songwriter Tom McBride, the Boston-area native who now calls Washington DC home. The 10-song record reflects a transition for McBride, towards a more cinematic, Americana style, with McBride’s dynamic voice the center of attention. For A Brief Head Spin, McBride teamed-up with his long-time friend and drummer for Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Sean Greenhalgh, to produce the record with him. The album is released under McBride’s label Humpback Records. In 2009, McBride released Like A Lion, with a DC-area backing band, Tom McBride & the Whig Party. In 2008, McBride released his debut solo EP, Headed For which was recorded in Cape Cod with his brother and friends from high-school and college.
Over the past two years, McBride has already shared the stage with artists Dawes, Eli “Paperboy” Reed, Futurebird, William Elliott Whitmore, Ellis Paul, Kevin Kinney, The Bogmen, Dan Bern, Dead Heart Bloom among many others. He was recently featured at both the 2010 CMJ Music Festival in New York City and the 2010 Dewey Beach Music Conference in addition to the over 150 shows he performed throughout the past two years, including performances at notable venues like Mercury Lounge (NYC), Pianos (NYC), Rock-N-Roll Hotel (DC), World Café Live (Philly), IOTA Club & Café (VA), Evening Muse (Charlotte), Mercy Lounge (Nashville), Eddie’s Attic (Atlanta) among others. McBride studied voice at the Blair School of Music conservatory in Nashville, TN and is the grandson of Francesco Albanese, an Italian lyric tenor from the 1940′s and 1950′s. McBride played in various bands throughout high-school and college which included a performance at Willie Nelson’s 2000 Farm Aid Festival in Nassau, VA. Tom started performing as a solo artist while living in Nashville and was featured at notable venues like Nashville’s Bluebird Cafe and Exit/Inn. After moving to Washington DC, he continued debuting new material across open-mics throughout the DC area, frequenting the popular IOTA Club & Cafe “open mic” in Arlington, VA. In 2008, he released his first solo record, a stripped-down 6-song EP titled “Headed For”.
